It’s with a deep sadness that we have to inform our fans and supporters of changes about to the board. Changes that we are having to undertake due to difficult circumstances away from the club itself.
The health situations of our Chairman Steve Harvey and our Club Secretary Kevin Keets have been well documented, and over this season they have been at the forefronts of all our minds. However, it has reached a point where both Steve and Kevin are looking to take a step back from their roles to focus on their health and recoveries. The club will always be in debt to the levels of commitment and drive that both Steve and Kevin have bought to the Club. We wish them both well and we know that they will always be very fondly remembered by our fans and players.
In response to these decisions the club have moved swiftly to appoint Steve Mitchener as the new club Chairman, with club President Bruce Scammell returning to more hands on activities. There will be more updates and news on the club positions over the coming weeks.
Steve Mitchener commented:
“Steve Harvey has driven this club forward over the last few seasons, both on and off the pitch, and I can’t emphasise enough how much we will feel his absence."
"Serious illness has also robbed us of the services of Kevin Keets, who has been an amazing secretary in his short time with us. Kevin almost pioneered the electronic age of being a football secretary. We will miss his enthusiasm and efficiency, but most of all his company. I send my best wishes and thanks to both Steve and Kevin."
"There can’t be too many successful organisations that lose the services of a Chairman and Secretary at the same time but, sadly, that is the case for us."
“My association with Hamworthy United Football Club started back when I was a 15 year old player, which is more years than I care to think about. I’ve always been part of club and have long helped the running of the bar and been on the committee. However, these sad circumstances this have seen me step into the role of Club Chairman."
"I believe that I have the ability to lead the club forward from this point, and those that know me won’t doubt my passion for this great club. I will keep you, the supporters, friends and sponsors, updated on the club in due course, but today is the day to focus on the achievements of Steve and Kevin."
As a club we hope you will join us in praising the fantastic achievements that have been made by both Steve Harvey and Kevin Keets for the benefit of Hamworthy United.
